A young girl revisits Anne Frank’s house and diary. The girl’s diary entry about her visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam with her family, intercepts with Anne Frank’s own rare excerpts on the world outside the Secret Annex as she watched it from behind a slit in the curtain.
Seen from the window are brief views of the street below, the canal, a bird in the sky, the bare branches of the chestnut tree. The images and the script – through Anne’s words and in the girl’s voice – deliver a universal message that travels beyond time, age and locale.
The film screened at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, May 3-11, 2008. Excerpts from the book Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl, with publisher’s permission.
